iFLY ladies' nights

Indoor skydiving photos at iFLY Colorado Springs, shot as Two Out Media to make my friends look cool.

Shot through the glass of an indoor skydiving tunnel, a group of helmeted flyers in flight suits hold hands in a belly-to-earth ring under blue light strips.
Role
Photography (Two Out Media)

Shooting iFLY events was something I was invited to by a friend, and it ended up leading to me meeting my wife. So it started as another excuse to get practice and reps and share cool photos with people who might not get them otherwise, but it became an excuse to chase this amazing woman I encountered and wanted to spend time around.

What's tricky about a wind tunnel?

The speed people move in, plus the darkness and low contrast of the suits against the walls (usually black on black), then add in the fact you are trying to not fall in or get sucked into the wind yourself. They all make wind tunnel photography really challenging, a ton of fun, and amazingly rewarding.

  • In an indoor skydiving tunnel, a person in a dark helmet and navy suit stands at the wall and reaches toward a flyer in a white helmet floating horizontally beside the iFLY Colorado Springs wall banner.
  • Six flyers in bright helmets and flight suits fly in a tight formation inside the tunnel, with a few spectators watching from seats on the far side of the glass.
  • Three flyers in helmets float upright in the tunnel, holding hands in a head-up formation, with the iFLY Colorado Springs banner around the base and dim stands behind.
  • A single flyer in a maroon suit and helmet floats sideways with one arm raised above the empty tunnel floor, with bright windows and a lounge visible behind the glass.
